J. KOJI LUM

(PhD University of Hawai'i 1995), Associate Professor of Anthropology and Biological Sciences, Director of LEAH (Laboratory of Evolutionary Anthropology and Health), is a molecular anthropologist and population geneticist whose research focuses on the origins, interactions, and resulting genetic characteristics of Pacific Island populations. Other research interests include the evolution of Plasmodium falciparum drug resistance (NIH RO1 funded), malaria epidemiology in Melanesia and Africa, ancient DNA, forensic genetics, animal and plant domestication, ecosystem population genetics, the interaction between infectious and chronic diseases, neurotransmitter polymorphisms and behavior, and molecular evolution.
