Introduces linguistics, the analytic study of language. Four areas of focus are the study of speech sounds and speech sound patterns (phonetics and phonology), word structure and formation (morphology), sentence formation and organization (syntax) and linguistic meaning (semantics). Provides students with theory and practice in linguistic analysis.
